Gallerie Fine Art shows Ross Lee landscapes

Gallerie Fine Art Gallery has appeared in the Bay Central Shopping Centre, Chapel Street, Downtown Tauranga. They’re showing the landscape works of artist Ross Lee when I call in.

The landscape works of Ross Lee are generally detailed, New Zealand specific and precise. They are outstanding examples of realistic landscape painting. Wanganui River; Kaikoura; Mount Taranaki; Lake Te Anau; Hooker Valley; Tasman Valley, Mount Cook National Park. Beautiful representations of the New Zealand environment. Interestingly one of my favourites was the less formal and precise “Bowen Falls”.

The gallery has been created at ground floor level from a number of small rooms in an ordinary looking office block within the shopping area. It’s location, room sizes and passages present both advantages and disadvantages in showing and viewing art works. Like many of Tauranga’s smaller dwellings it’s not possible to hang and appreciate larger works but the outstanding advantage of this gallery’s room sizes is that a viewer and prospective purchaser will get a very clear and realistic idea of the appearance and viewing feasibility of any work. There’s also an intimacy about the gallery and it really does feel as if you’re looking at art in a smaller home setting.

If you’ve got visitors from overseas this would be an exhibition to make sure you take them to. When I visited Gallerie it was being watched over by the very pleasant Tracey Robinson, father of one of the Gallerie Directors. If you’re lucky you may get to meet him too!
