Even the dogs want to see the Hairy Maclary sculptures installed on the waterfront. I’ve had a word with Jess down the road, the two fluffy bundles over the road and Flynn the border collie next door. They’re somewhat bemused that a town the size of Tauranga is having such a problem supporting the conclusion of this project. II agree it’s difficult to understand in a town which keeps vaunting its expansion and success particularly when compared with recently visited Rotorua and the efforts it is making to revitalise its downtown area and local economy.
So it’s with great relief and delight I’m told that the Bethlehem Te Puna Lions (of the fabulous Bethlehem Market) on 01 June 2014 are organising a Dog Walk. Starts at Memorial Park and then toddles on down to the Strand sculpture site for a sausage sizzle. Entry is by gold coin donation.
Don’t have a dog – bring a dog picture or a soft toy or dress up as a Hairy Maclary character. You never know who’ll you meet walking their dog! What was that Flynn – get in behind! We are Flynn and we will! See you all at Memorial Park on 01 June. And that’s woof to you.
