Coming Up: all over the place!

Not sure whether it is the endless summer we are experiencing here in New Zealand but there is a creative zing happening around the Bay of Plenty.   You will all have seen that Kati Kati based artist Birgitt Shannon has had a work selected for the finalist’s exhibition of the Molly Morpeth Canaday Awards based at the Whakatane Library and Exhibition Centre.    The exhibition is always worth a trip to Whakatane.

Here’s some more locally based events you can participate in:

Kati Kati is an increasingly interesting creative hub in the Bay of Plenty.  The Arts Junction and the Carlton Gallery (a step away from the Western Bay of Plenty Museum) are worth a visit as is a walk along the Haiku Pathway.      Coming up at the Carlton Gallery (contributed by the ever busy Birgitt Shannon):-

POINTILLISM AT THE CARLTON GALLERY

MARTIN ROGERS

Martin’s solo exhibition opens at the Carlton Gallery at The Arts Junction, Main Road, Kati Kati on Monday 18th February 2019 and runs through until Sunday 3rd March 2019.

Martin Rogers was born in Murupara and is now residing in Waihi Beach. He has been creating artwork on and off for the last 45 years. At school he was inspired by New Zealand artist Rei Hamon who uses the Technique *Pointillism.

Martin’s early works were fictional but now are influenced by New Zealand scenery and landscapes that he encounters in his other passion of tramping; hunting and fishing.

Martin is aware of the endless possibilities for his work in Nature.   This is Martin’s first public exhibition and he is looking forward to sharing his artworks with the community.  You can contact Martin directly  through his cellphone:

alchemy

spoken word poetry

Many of you will read the local news paper/monthly community magazine “The Lizard News”.  ARTbop is a regular contributor.   We were delighted to see that alchemy the spoken word poetry group is once again advertised as happening at the Black Sheep at Whakamarama this Wednesday at 6.00pm.   Like the poetry events held at the Incubator Creative Hub you can have a glass of wine and in addition here, a meal or a minor nibble and share your original works or the works of a published poet you enjoy.  alchemy  has been privileged to share its evenings with overseas visitors to the district and a published poet from Auckland.    ARTbop’s Rosemary Balu often starts the evening with a rendition of a “famous” children’s poem – this is where we first learn our love of language and poetry.  We know it’s a busy outdoor time of the year for rural poets   –  but take a break and come on down to the Black Sheep at Whakamarama and share your spoken words this Wednesday.
