uPflash: Harvest Festival days at the Whakamarama Hall this weekend!

0

You know it’s that time of the year again, autumn, when “living rural” you start to hear the patter of little feet….field mice looking for their over-winter home spaces.   It’s also the time of year that all that hard work over spring and summer is evident:  the harvest.  And at the Whakamarama Hall this weekend (16 and 17 March) we’ve two events to celebrate the season of plenty.

Here’s a really short video about the Harvest Festival at the Whakamarama Hall (Community Centre).   Friday 6pm -8.30pm we are sharing a potluck dinner.  There’ll be music and Clare Green has organised country dancers who will perform and try to show us how to do it.

Saturday afternoon, Sharon, Dave and Billy Roy will be judging the entries in the traditional Harvest Festival display of produce.   There are vegetable creating opportunities for all – what can you make with a potato (vegetables are supplied).  The photography competition will be judged.  Flowers and foliage on display and there will be stalls selling local produce, pickles, preserves etc.

Whakamarama grower and florist Barbara Peck is donating one of her wonderful bouquets for a raffle and there may be one or two additional surprise raffle prizes.   Alessandra of Amore catering will be selling Italian themed treats.

And don’t forget the next Affordable Art & Artisan Fair will be on the last Sunday of March, that’s the 25th!   The Fairs are held within the Black Sheep Bar & Grill complex.  There is heaps of parking, clean toilets and wonderful food and coffee.  There’s live music.  And because we’re coming up to the season of the Easter Bunny, exhibitors at the Fair will be in the swing of things both jazz and chocolate!   We’ve got some spot prizes and look out for the creative headgear.   If you would like to join us as an exhibitor/retailer of your original creativity you can contact us at aaafair17@gmail.com

We are sign posted along SH2 with signage to the turnoff of SH2 and Plummer’s Point Road.  See you all on the 25th.
