Nick Scott ending one year and starting another with his review of “Dune” Nick says “I always like to see how a film begins and think it is quite important…..”
Many people have been waiting a long time for this film, and they will should not be disappointed.
I initially thought this film would be based on the 1984 version which starred the singer Sting in a lead role. I then did some research and discovered that version was an enormous flop at the box office. Indeed, the director said that he was going back to the original text of the novel.
I always like see how a film begins and think it is quite important. After seeing the first ten minutes of the film, I was completely sucked into the world of the film. If someone had offered me one hundred dollars to leave the cinema, I would have turned them down.
While watching “Dune” you know the basic ingredients are all there although, because of the type of film it is, less time is spent on developing characters. That one thing that is missing is easily made up for by the sheer ability of the film to completely transport you into its world of science fiction.
Unlike Star Wars there are no big battles, no lasers, no stereotypical characters. It is strange but true that George Lucas was inspired to make Star Wars after reading the original book.
This is only part one of the Dune story. I can’t wait for the next one.
