Tauranga Author’s finalists in LIANZA Children’s Book Awards!

Three Tauranga children’s books are included in the finalists for the LIANZA Children’s Book Awards.

Debbie McCauley is a finalist in the Elsie Locke Non-Fiction Award with two of her books.

The bi-lingual “Motiti Blue and the Oil Spill: A Story from the Rena Disaster” and “Taratoa and the Code of Conduct” A Story from the Battle of Gate Pa” (This latter book was illustrated by Debbie’s 15-year-old daughter Sophie). Both books were produced and published by Debbie’s published company Mauao Publishing. Debbie acknowledges the contributions of designer Sarah Elworthy, Te Reo translator Tamati Waaka and artist Elliot Mason.

Susan Brocker  of Tauranga is a finalist in the LIANZA Young Adult Book Award with
“1914: Riding into War” Inspired by Susan’s grandfather Trooper Thomas McGee a WWI Mounted Rifleman this book is the first in a Scholastic Kiwis at War series produced to support WWI commemorations from 2014 -2018.
